Between the options it’s a no-brainer for KXNO to choose the Twins. They have decent support in Central Iowa, but it makes more sense from a business side. A great deal of Iowans are Cubbie fans - who will not listen to the Sox or Cards, yet may listen into the Twins games. For the Twins they can promote a family atmosphere a short drive to the north and build up excitement for their new park. Both sides win…and it might just get more support than the I-Cubs.

The Twins would be a great catch for KXNO. This team is poised for a great 2009 season, and many Central Iowans are sick and tired of the same old thing (Cubs, Cards, Cubs, Cards). I have been a Twins fan since birth, and grew up listening to the Twins on WHO in the 1970’s. I would love to have the rest of cntral Iowa hop on this bandwagon, because this baseball franchise is amazing. Make this happen! Just think, you guys would also be carrying all of Casey Blake’s games as he helps the Twins win their 3rd World Series (I am assuming he will sign anyday). Again, make this happen at any cost!

The idea that Cub fans are more likely to listen to the Twins (a team they don’t care about) than the Cardinals or White Sox (teams they hate) is absurd. Regardless of that most Cub fans are going to skip over whoever is playing. That being said in this market its 3 to 1 Cards to Twins fans and thats probably being conservative. These internet polls aren’t going to change that. The reason the Twins are leading is that the Cardinals fans don’t have a vested interest in KXNO carrying the games. We can find the Cards on 95.9 or 105.3 with no problem or watch them on TV every night. I could care less what KXNO does, but if all things are equal as far as what it costs to put them on the air, and it just comes down to how many people are listening…then its the Cardinals and its not even close.

So, let me get this straight…you heard from 18 some odd Twins fans who think you (KXNO) should carry Twins games starting this spring instead of Cardinals broadcasts?

First, those 18 fans…are most likely the ONLY Twins fans in your listening audience in comparison to how many Cardinals fans there are here.

Second… I, and I am sure many, many, other Cardinal fans, wasn’t able to get through during your “not-so-subtle” biased segment to voice our opinion on the injustice that would be done if you brought the Twins, instead of the Cardinals, here locally. Look at ANY poll that has been done in regard to MLB fans in this market…It would be: Cubs @ 60-65%, Cardinals @ 25-30%, then OTHER (Royals, Twins, White Sox) @ 5-10%. Yaah…go ahead and pull it up.

Bottom line…if you two actually believe bringing the Twins to this audience is a better sell for your clients than the Cardinals leads this listener to believe you’re either highly delusional, or “paste is yummy”…and you belong in a home!! If the Minnesota Twins are the ones chosen as the broadcasted MLB team by your station, then I think I speak for the 10’s of thousands of local Cardinal fans when I say…When the Twins game comes on, I am switching over to The Champ.

Thank you, and good night, gentlemen.

I know that there is no chance of it but I would like to have Chicago’s real team the White Sox.

No matter who you go with I think it should be an AL team. With Cub games already on it would be nice to also have the AL represented.

Yankees and you bring in new listeners. Many older men and younger kids around here follow the Yankees, New York would bring a BUZZ to KXNO. Miller don’t worry about 6:00 start times, better than 7:00. Cardinal,Twin or Cubs games can be found all over the dial.

Of all the baseball fans I work with in Des Moines, here’s a breakdown of their loyalty:
Twins - 7
Cubs - 5
Royals - 3
Braves, Cards, Brewers, White Sox - each 1

Case Closed - Twins Win!

I don’t know a single Cards fan here in WDM. I think I’d prefer to listen to Minnesota over any of the others. John Gordon is an excellent play-by-play man. Pick up the Twins, and they will listen. If not the Twins, please broadcast anybody but St. Louis. Their play-by-play man (Mike Shannon, I think)has a horrible radio voice, and just is not good. Looks like the Twins fans have spoken, and I like what I’ve read.

Mike wants the White Sox? Talk about 3 hours of bitching about every pitch for 162 games. I’d rather listen to Cedar Rapids Kernels baseball before I’d ever tune into a Sux game. The only thing worse than a White Sux radio call is their TV broadcast. White Sux: YOU GONE! — Twins: YOU CAN PUT ‘EM ON THE RADIOOOOO, YEEEESSSSS! (Sux fans will get my humor)

Do yourselves a favor. Head down to Principal Park when Memphis is in town. Compare that to any other visiting team.

The Cardinals are the clear cut number two in this market. 85 people voting in an unscientific poll means absolutely nothing.

There are alot quite a few Yankee fans here in Iowa that I know, that don’t get to watch them on T.V. or listen to them on the radio. The Twins have Fox Sports North, the Cards have Fox Sports Midwest. The Yankees are the greatest franchise in pro sports history. And one of the most popular. That itself would bring in a lot of listeners.

I would agree that the Yankees are the greatest team that baseball history has seen, yet I can’t see them as a good fit for the local baseball fan. Many of the Yanks fans will go out and get the YES network or listen on MLB radio; where as I dont think the same can be said for any of the other teams involved with this situation. With the Twins aboard the station, local sponsers and the Twins can promote trips to the cities and drum up some more AL support in the area (as Mike stated earlier). I would also agree that there are more Twin fans in the Des Metro than Cards fans; they just are as vocal about their alliance. I don’t have a dog in the fight, but logic says it has to be “twinkie time”

I am the best play by play guy on the radio today. Put me on your station!
To all these guys saying they know more Twins fans in the DM area than Cardinals fans, you can’t count your daughter/wife/neice/co-worker’s who don’t watch baseball as fans just because you told them they are Twins fans! Get out and meet some new people. There are plenty of us Cardinals fans in the DM area!
