Some Early 2007 Best of Des Moines’
Gotta’ love the annual best of Des Moines….
Best sports bar: Legend’s 50th and Mills Civic. Like a Vegas sports book. Stop by and you’ll see exactly what I talking about.
Public golf course: Copper Creek, Pleasant Hill. Two completely different 9s. They can level the 10th hole and you won’t hear me complain.
Sports radio caller: Duke from Des Moines. An oldie but goodie from the days of “The Jock”. Guy picks his spots and always has insightful material. The anti-Nellie…but Nellie can surprise once in awhile.
Sports radio emailer: Adam Batchelder. Iowa State apologist, but pays attention.
Fine dining spot: Mezzodi’s…in a landslide!
Best sports moment I didn’t expect: Tailgating before Syracuse game in Iowa City.
You can have Ann Arbor and Columbus. I absolutely love Iowa City on fall Saturday’s.
Play of the year: Zach’s lay-up on 15 during Sunday’s final round of the Masters.
Best sports radio interview: Mark Silverman, Big 10 Network.

Marty….why are you such a shill?
Your best of list reads more like a holiday thank you list to your sponsors and advertisers. Ron and B.J. and the crew at Mezzodi’s and Christophers are great but they might not even be the best restaurants on their respective streets.
As far as your golf picks, have you played The Legacy? Have you played The Harvester?
I guess I forget that you are the same guy who says John Cougar Mellencamp is over the hill, yet you’ll stand in line for Eagles tickets. Stick to sports and leave the reviews to the people that have actually been more than four places.
