Drake Basketball/Real Deal?
With a win tonight the Drake Bulldogs will take another step towards a national Top 25 ranking. Beating S. Illinois won’t elevate the Dogs per se, but a loss and people will rightfully dismiss Drake as a pretender for now.
Coach Keno Davis scoffed when I mentioned the esteemed “Blue Ribbon” Yearbook had the Dogs’ 8th in the pre-season while others had them even worse. Davis was amazed I took the time to put forth the BR assertion. He needs to calm down a little here, Drake has something called March to show it’s wares!
This could well be a ‘trap’ game for Dogs’, but people are calling looking for tickets and
Indiana /Iowa is a snoozer.
Spot Bowl Pick: Oklahoma dismantles W. Virginia in the Fiesta.
Think Stoopes had any problem getting his guys focused after the Boise State nightmare from last year.
Sooners and the Under
Football/NFL Playoffs
I’m going to hang tough with the Patriots, but I really think it will be a bumpy road to their 4th Super Bowl in 6 years. I think the upset is coming inthe NFC where everyone thinks it Dallas…or Geen Bay. Are you sitting down?
I’m taking a complete flyer on the New York Giants to make it Glendale.
Consider: Eli Manning cannot get any worse than he was at times this year. His game against the Patriots was one of his best as a pro. Something to build on? Toomer and Burress are weapons and everyone elevates their play in the post-season. Shockey Schmockey…he is inconsistent and, while very talented, can be a big time distraction and excuse-maker.
I’ll take my chances without him; ah, better yet, no choice in the matter as he is out.

NFL/ Crunch Time
Anyone else here this mindless prattle from Fox Sports Radio
in discussing NFL Coach of the Year honors?
Look, if the Pats win Saturday night–Its Belichick. I’ll listen to an argument from Mike McCarthy in Green Bay, but Del Rio and Fisher did respectable jobs in Jax and Tennessee–not Coach of the Year work—not this year anyhow.
Can I take back all those plaudits I showered on the Vikings. Tavaris Jackson looks overmatched. Nice if the get in, but I don’t think he is ready for the playoff stage. Shut down Adrian Peterson and you beat Minnesota.
I think Green Bay can beat Dallas in Dallas. Notice I said can–not saying they will. Here’s what needs to happen and its all about Tony Romo. I’m still not sold on this guy inasmuch as I was never sold on Kurt Warner. Romo now has all glitter and the trappings of a matinee idol. He is Michelle Wie–he has won nothing! Come talk to me after he beats Favre and Packers in NFC title tilt on 1/20!!
