John Feinstein to have bypass surgery

Friend John Feinstein is set to have bypass surgery next week. Best wishes from everyone at 62andeven.com

From Feinstein’s blog:

The angiogram showed “four to six,” blockages in my heart—one of them 100 percent. The doctor who did it said there was really no option other than bypass. I asked how could that be when I had not had a heart attack or even chest pains and my cholesterol level was 162.

He smiled. “First, you’ve been lucky,” he said. “Second, your heart is strong thanks to your swimming. It’s your arteries that are screwed up.”

Flip, flop…wow

Craig Robinson has put together some of the coolest baseball charts and graphics you’ll ever lay your eyes on.

Here is a brief taste:

More about Craig:

Essentially, this site is what I’d have been doing when I was 12 years old had the Internet and Photoshop been available to me in the eighties. As well as the infographics there are a few other bits and bobs; like small pixiliated portraits of some baseball players. They are filleted from a bigger collection of Minipops (that’s what I call them) which is one of the biggest parts of my main web site, Flip Flop Flyin’ (thus the name of this site). There’s also some photos from some of the stadiums I’ve visited, and a few drawings.

Be sure to visit www.flipflopflyin.com.

Hockey news

Finally, some good news on the local hockey front!

In a interview with 62andeven.com this morning, former Iowa Stars Head Coach Davey Allison made it official:

“July 1, I start with the Bucs (Des Moines Bucaneers of the USHL). I got the kayak on the roof, a six-pack of Coke and a half-pack of smokes (cigars) and headed to Chicago”, said Allison.

Allison says he’s ‘thrilled’ to be working with GM J.P. Parise and expects to be back in Des Moines in early August.

Allison says he welcomes the challenges of heading coach at the USHL level….”winning is still very important.”

Jared DeVries pulled from practice

Detroit Lions veteran defensive end Jared DeVries was pulled from the practice field this morning and informed by Lions officials pulled Jared DeVries from the practice field this morning to break the news that his high school coach had been killed.

“We found out during practice and what we did is got him off the practice field … and informed him of that and let him start to deal with that,” said Lions head coach Jim Schwartz. “That’s a tragedy. There are special relationships in life, there are fathers and sons, there’s sisters and brothers and things like that and there’s a special relationship between a coach and a player. Particularly in high school when boys are developing into men. Everybody’s going to have to be there for Jared to help him get through this.” [From mlive.com]
