Let’s have our own little BCS Playoff
It is very easy to complain about the BCS. I mean, the NCAA couldn’t put up a bigger bullseye to hit.
So, rather than rehash what is wrong with the BCS, our good friend Andy Launspach took matters into his own hands and setup a playoff system for D-1 college football and we’ll play the games out here.
Stop by each week and help pick the 2007 Launspach BCS Champion.
First the methodology
- There are 12 automatic spots and 4 wild card spots.
- The 11 conference champions are automatically in the field.
- The last remaining automatic spot goes to the highest ranked team that wasn’t a conference champion.
- Instead of giving away the final 4 spots, I propose there is a Wild Card weekend where 8 teams play for the final 4 spots.
- Those 8 teams would be picked from the remaining top teams in the final regular season AP Poll.
We’ll get into the seeding process later.
Second, here is this years bracket

I just want to ride on the coattails of Andy. He can be the commissioner and just give me a job in the front office doing something. Make sure you patent this system because somebody will put their name on it or maybe already has. See you in the office in 2012. I’ll get your coffee.

This is an awesome idea. Can you imagine crazed Hawkeye fans getting fired up to head to Kinnick for round 1 of the playoffs right now. College Football Excitement would be at an all time high. I don’t understand why the Powers that Be can’t get it through their heads that this is the only way to go. If this system took hold, College Football popularity would surpass that of the NFL by leaps and bounds. This system would make the regular season more important also as teams vie for seeding in the playoffs. It would also accomplish all goals from a monetary standpoint for each respective university. Can you see “The Midwest Region of the College Football Playoffs Presented by FED EX”. The monetary gains are immeasurable. Congratulations Andy Launspach on the great idea. Love the website also.
