Ferentz inks new deal

Kirk Ferentz will be at Iowa until 2015, unless he or the university decide he won’t be. Ferentz put his John Hancock on a new 7 year deal last week that will keep paying him $3.02 million/year.

One new wrinkle, gives Ferentz access to private plane transportation for up to 35 hours of personal use a year. So that’s nice. Kind of hard to get good times and decent seats on United for only $3 mill a year.

Jewel Hampton a “GO” for 09

The Register is reporting that WHO AM is reporting that Gary Dolphin is reporting that Kirk Ferentz said Jewel Hampton ok to play this year and will not have surgery on his knee.

Gary Dolphin, radio voice for the Hawkeyes, talked to coach Kirk Ferentz on Thursday night and reported this morning that “all parties involved” feel the knee can heal on its own.

Anybody else tired of this?

Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn has pled not guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury, university officials confirmed today.

The charge resulted from an incident in January involving Clayborn and an Iowa City taxi driver.

Attitude is everything and since his arrest in December Anthony Tucker seems to have a pretty bad one.

He came off the bench to play against Drake and seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. Coach Lickliter sat Tucker for the next three games and Wednesday he was declared academically ineligible.

This kid is obviously having a very hard time adjusting to college and Big Ten basketball. He has shown some glimpses or greatness, but without his head screwed on straight he is a transfer waiting to happen.

Hopefully time off will help not hurt.

Stuart has taken a crack at projecting College Football’s Top 25 for next year. He has Iowa pulling in at #21.

21. Iowa (9-4)

Who’s back: QB Ricky Stanzi, T Bryan Bulaga, LB Pat Angerer, CB Amari Spievey.

Who’s not: RB Shonn Greene*, G Seth Olsen, DTs Mitch King and Matt Kroul.

Skinny: The upstart Hawkeyes are fairly set in most areas, but rising sophomore RB Jewel Hampton must fill 1,850-yard rusher Greene’s shoes.

As you can see it is full of analysis and should be taken very seriously. I really wish the first Top 25 poll didn’t come out until 6 weeks into the season.

This is pretty amazing.

KXNO reporting Ed Podolak to step down today

KXNO radio is reporting that University of Iowa football color analyst Ed Podolak will step down today. Podolak has come under fire after photos of him partying at the Outback Bowl in Tampa were posted on the web.

I am not condoning Eddie’s actions, you have to take responsibility for yourself especially when you have had previous incidents like Ed has, but I’ve heard there were other Iowa staff members at the party. If that is the case and they saw how he was acting and his condition other should have stepped in and taken control.

Where the hell was his wingman?
