NY Times – High Marks for Barnes

Pete Thamel from the NY Times watched Harrison Barnes play last week at the LeBron James Skills Academy and King City Classic. While Barnes’ game is impressive, Thamel was more impressed with Barnes’ maturity.

Since he will most likely enter college as an academic sophomore, he said he was looking for a school to be able to put him on a fast track to graduate. And if he does jump to the N.B.A. after one year, Barnes said that he needed a university that will be flexible in allowing him to return and take classes to get his degree.

“I would say it’s going to be very important,” he said when asked what role education would play in his college choice. “You can’t play basketball forever. Getting that degree and foundation is very important.”
