Marijo Demikat (1955-2009)

Marijo Louise Demikat nee Hawkins, 54, of Murphy Terrace, Northampton, passed away Thursday, May 21, surrounded by her family at home after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer.

Born in Greenfield, March 6, 1955, she was the daughter of Robert Hawkins and Natalie (Bynum) Sheehan.

Marijo was a registered nurse for many years at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

She leaves her two children, Emily Demikat and Matthew Demikat, both of Northampton; her father, Robert Hawkins, his long-time partner, Andrea Morris; her mother and step-father, Natalie and Daniel Sheehan; her three brothers, Michael, Mark and Mitchell Hawkins; as well as several nieces, nephews and many loving friends.

Marijo was a loving mother, caring friend, and an endless giver. Everyone that knew Marijo knew her as an unstoppable force. When she set her mind on something, nothing could stop her, except of course, her next little project that just had to get done. There is nothing in the world, Marijo would not do for someone in need. Her friends and family treasured her for her colorful character, spontaneity, and outrageous sense of humor. Every moment spent with her was better than the last and the next was never a let down. Marijo was an unforgettable woman and will live in our hearts forever.

Breast Cancer impacts 1 in 8 women during their lifetimes. Fifty-four years young is much too young for anyone to leave. Please consider making a donation to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure campaign.
