Around the world of hockey
Hockey season doesn’t start for a few more weeks (playoffs), but for those that are paying attention, boy are you getting your money worth. Here are just a few highlights from last week.
AHL
Providence Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask doesn’t agree with the refs two calls in the overtime shoot out period, and to his credit he was right – he should be pissed. The first goal is scored after Rask poke checks the puck away. According to the rules the play is done, no rebounds. The second shot clearly hits the crossbar and the refs counts is as a winning goal. Rask then comes unglued.
More from the AHL as the San Antonio Rampage’s Francis Lessard and Jay Rosehill from the Toronto Marlies get into fisticuffs.
USHL
And not to be outdone by the pros, a little action from the USHL. Waterloo visited Chicago last week and the game saw as many penalty minutes as game minutes. The teams combined for 60 minutes in penalties including the ejection of Black Hawks coach P.K. O’Handley
“As bad as things were out there it is unfortunate that it had to happen,” O’Handley said. “I am not proud of it and it should not have taken place.
“I thought our guys played very well under some tough circumstances. It has been a very difficult 24 hours for this team.”
