Drake recruit up for Mr. Basketball in Michigan

Incoming Drake basketball recruit Ben Simons, a 6-9 forward from Cadillac, Mich., is among five finalists for 2009 Mr. Basketball in Michigan which will be announced this Monday by the Detroit Free Press.
Simons averaged 29.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.1 steals per game this past season.
He had two 44-point games and a pair of 38-point efforts, while leading Cadillac to a No. 9 ranking in the final 2009 Michigan Class B poll.
He earned first-team Michigan Class B all-state honors by the Detroit Free Press and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. He was a three-time first team All-Big North Conference performer.
Looks like Phelps is in on several good recruits, Seth VanDeest, Aaron Hawley, Reece Uhlenhopp and David Smith. His reputation from Arizona State was strong in the recruiting department. Hopefully these recruits, along with his first year of head coaching under his belt will prove to be the perfect combination.
