Darkest before Dawn/ISU Update
The Turner Gill ‘Thanks but no thanks’ was indeed another downer from ISU AD Jamie Pollard.
Consider: Gill was/is a Big 12 guy; his job at UBuffalo amazing when you consider how bad, non-existent, the program was; his hiring would have created a much-needed buzz amid knowing you got the right guy. Pollard, remember, is an easy touch. He marveled how Gene Chizik was a high character man, look-you-in-eye, no nonsense individual. Ah, Jamie–that,my friend, is the makings of a snake-oil salesman!
Pollard got a break last night not long after the Gill story spun out. If things pan out today the process moves to a critical stage and his goal if having a new Cyclone coach by Saturday. Two key boosters huddled last night, and while frustrated like everyone else, they are behind Jamie. Pollard is juggling a delicate balance; he needs ‘ the right guy’ and NEEDS to create a buzz. Chizik was, again, the Right Guy, and the buzz was minimal. Jamie has played that card and now he needs to deliver both. Last night, alas, his run of bad luck, may have finally turned for the better.
Shortly after 1:00 pm (Iowa time) we’ll hope for an update.
