Jamie Pollard told by Gill Attorney Steve Mooney NO Thanks…staying at Buffalo. UBuffalo issuing a statement within the hour!

Bummer for Pollard and Cyclones…
Is this more a reflection of Turner Gill wanting to stay at Buffalo or not wanting to Iowa State to be his big jump.

Mike Stoops is now Number 1… You could get 2-3 former Iowa coaches and the improvement in the program would be overnight and give you a reason to look forward to next year

I think he meant it with sarcasm. Because no matter how many times Pollard gets turned down, when he finally gets a coach he will say it was his first choice.

Well duh… Who would say that they didn’t get their first choice? There is a reason Pollard uses so many things to keep us guessing. Was Ferentz the #1 choice way back then? I know he wasn’t the fan’s #1. Basically all we have is the fan’s pick.

Good for Gill. This at best would be a lateral move for him. Hopefully he can get a nice raise from Buffalo and continue to build his resume.

Gill is a very smart man. You dont turn Buffalo around through dumb luck. He knows he doesnt have to jump at the 1st BCS school that offers him. There will be bigger and better opportunities coming. I dont see any reason why he would have wanted to start all over agian at ISU.

Josh4NU your an idiot. what kind of lateral move is it going from 250k a year to 1 million a year. Going from the Mac to the Big 12. Wonder what kind of promotions you have turned down at your current job. Next time they offer you to go on fries instead of hamburgers you might want to take it. It’s called a promotion where you work.

Andrew, as much as you want to believe ISU is a promotion from Buffalo, it isnt. The sooner you guys understand the fact that ISU is a stepping stone job and so is Buffalo the sooner you will understand it would have been a lateral move. Gill will get a job at a place with serious potential in the near future. Remember, he knows the tradition of ISU, he helped create it in the 80’s.

Anyone knows that fries are a demotion from burgers. ISU is screwed. Potential candidates saw the terror in Chizek’s face once he realized what Ames, Iowa really was about.

Todd, take off the parachute pants and quit living in the 80’s. The sooner that NU fans learn that parity has arrived and that they are now a stepping stone destination in the middle of no where, the better off we’ll all be.

Other then pay, what makes this a better job? Buffalo has been improving over the past three years, ISU has gotten worse over the past 2 years.

Pay is important but to a man like Gill, it means next to nothing. He will find the right job for him and his family. He knows ISU very well. Both playing against and coaching against. He can sell Buffalo easier to the players he needs there to succeed then he could sell ISU to the level of recruits he needs to be successful at ISU.

It is by far a lateral move in regards to everything but pay.

Oh by the way, if you knew anything it was the 90s they won their National Championships.

Todd, the last two coaches, soon to be three never got a chance to leave. Once NU fans realize that 10 win seasons are a thing of the past and TO isn’t coming back, the longer they keep a coach.

I realize that you all say that ISU is horrible, and you have that right based on the past. But if Utah, Boise, Buffalo, Rutgers, KSU can have success, why can’t Iowa State? Because we are in a cold climate? So is half of America. Because we are in Iowa? We have running water AND electricity now, so… We have a small fanbase? I think our numbers are pretty solid when you compare many schools in D1.

We averaged a close-to-full stadium for a 5-19 two-season team. Where do you get that kind of support? This is not the years of 15 game losing streaks, nor is the conference that is dominated by NU, Colorado and Oklahoma any more. Well, I guess OU does, but it is a winnable league. Refer to ISU a few years ago, MU and KU the last 2 years.

Sorry, I’m so ignorant to sports that I don’t get why my alma mater can’t find the guy that can win here and sustain it. Dan was close…

Rusty, I hate to say it, but Pelini and Nebraska are the most stable program in the North right now. 9-10 win seasons are definitely a routine possibility in Lincoln with their staff, and the fact that they just redshirted over 50 freshmen this season. Yep…..50. Playing in a New Year’s bowl game in year one, I’d say things are getting back to normal in Lincoln.

Just wanted to break it to you easy….

Back to Gill, I think that with the players he has coming back to Buffalo, he can build on this season’s success and line himself up for much bigger things when the coaching carousel spins again in 2009.

I just don’t see who Iowa State gets that will be a “big name” guy. Of course, I said that before Pollard pulld Chizik out of nowhere two years ago. We shall see.

I agree Todd, we are the cubs of college football without a doubt. But someday, someday the curse will break. We have had WAY too many bad things in the last 5 years alone. RIP, Pete, Enis, Stevie, Barry, Dexter and a couple others that I apologize I can’t remember. Plus the unbelievable chances that we lost in making the championship games…

Quick Bio

Gus Malzahn is in his second year on the coaching staff at The University of Tulsa. He serves as assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator, as well as quarterbacks coach.

Under his direction, the Tulsa offense ranked as the nation’s top offense in 2007, gaining 543.9 yards per game. The Hurricane also led Conference USA in passing, scoring, TD passes and passing efficiency, while ranking third nationally for passing, fifth for pass efficiency and 10th for scoring offense.

Tulsa’s offense has established nine team school records and 12 individual records. The Hurricane also set nine Conference USA team records, while Tulsa quarterback Paul Smith established new C-USA single-season marks for total yards, TDs responsible for, passing yards and TD passes.

Malzahn spent the 2006 season as offensive coordinator and receivers coach at the University of Arkansas The Razorbacks finished the campaign with a 10-4 record, were SEC West Division Champions and was ranked 15th nationally.

Under Malzahn’s direction, Arkansas had the nation’s fourth-ranked rushing offense and also ranked among the top-35 nationally in total offense and scoring offense. He was named the Rivals.com National Offensive Coordinator of the Year in 2006. Under his tutelage, Arkansas had the nation’s top running back tandem with Heisman trophy runner-up Darren McFadden and fellow All-American Felix Jones.

Before moving to the college ranks, Malzahn spent 14 seasons as a successful Arkansas High School head coach, where he led five teams to the state championship game and won three titles.

Before his move to Arkansas, Malzahn was the head coach at Springdale (Ark.) High School for five years (2001-05). He led the Bulldogs to two state championship game appearances, 2002 and 2005. His 2005 team posted a 14-0 record, won the state’s Class 5A championship, outscored its opponents 664-118 and was ranked among the top-10 teams in the country.

Before his stint at Springdale High, Malzahn coached five years at Shiloh Christian High School where he transformed that team into one of the most dynamic offensive prep squads in the nation. He led the Saints to back-to-back state championships in 1998 and 1999.

On the prep level, Malzahn coached two quarterbacks, Josh Floyd and Rhett Lashley at Shiloh Christian High School, both of whom set national passing records. Malzahn also tutored 2005 Gatorade, Parade Magazine and Rivals.com National Player of the Year Mitch Mustain at Springdale High School.

Malzahn began his coaching career in 1991 at Hughes High School, where he stayed for five seasons including the final four years as the head coach. In 1992, Malzahn became the head coach and in 1994 his team reached the state championship game.

Malzahn, 42, earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Henderson State (Ark.) in 1990. He and his wife, Kristi, have two daughters: Kylie and Kenzie.
