Non Chizik News – AFL is shutting down
It’s on. It’s off. It’s on….no it is officially off.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer the AFL’s board of directors voted last night to cancel the 2009 season and come back in 2010. It seems there were too many big market teams that would not commit to the 2009 season.
“We couldn’t be taken seriously if we lost too many teams, especially in big markets,” the source said. “We needed to shut down and reorganize.”
The source said the deal-breaker was ESPN saying it would not televise a six-, seven- or eight-team league.
